DO2 Technologies Inc., a software solutions company that optimizes financial and operational processes between energy companies and their suppliers, successfully brokered the first PIDX XML (Extensible Markup Language) invoice through its OpenInvoice™ tool. XML is designed for seamless web-based transactions among trading partners. OpenInvoice is an Internet-based solution that automates and improves invoicing and field ticket reconciliation, as well as pricing reconciliation processes.
Anadarko Canada Corporation received an invoice from Lonkar Services Ltd. through DO2's OpenInvoice tool. Lonkar is a wireline service company currently doing business with operating companies in Western Canada and the Eastern Rockies in the US.
According to Wayne Forrest, Controller of Lonkar, "This new functionality has enabled us to import invoices and information directly from our own system into OpenInvoice, saving us redundancy in staff time. This has also opened up new doors of opportunity to work with other operating companies using this same technology."
PIDX (Petroleum Industry Data Exchange) is the Electronic Commerce Committee of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the primary trade association representing all phases of the oil and gas industry. Electronic commerce is the exchange of business information between companies using standard formats without the need for manual intervention. Electronic commerce is rapidly gaining acceptance as a means of reducing costs and improving business operating efficiencies in many industries.
DO2 Technologies has worked closely with operating companies and suppliers to help develop the API PIDX document standards to support upstream oil and gas processes, and was an active participant in the PIDX ComProServ (Complex Products and Services) sub-committee. In 2000 and 2001, DO2 Technologies was a member of the first pilot team of ComProServ that developed and tested electronic field ticket to invoice transactions between suppliers and operating companies. The current production version of OpenInvoice supports the PIDX XML transaction standards using PIDX formats for invoice document exchange.
"DO2 Technologies and its customers understand that the creation and adoption of standards is a key component in the success of e-business. Previous efforts in this area, in particular EDI, have met with limited success because there was still a great deal of customization required on both the buyer and seller's side of a transaction, said Rod Munro, President and CEO, DO2 Technologies. "With the PIDX XML standards, we now have a format that has been sanctioned by the API, and that will greatly simplify this process for all participants in a transaction. We are very pleased to be the first company to use this standard in a live invoice transaction," Munro said.
Suppliers and operators in the upstream oil and gas industry use OpenInvoice to collaboratively create and manage field tickets and invoices. The process automation results in significantly reduced costs, while the spend capture and analysis capabilities allow energy companies to work toward better relationships with their strategic suppliers.
DO2 Technologies delivers Internet-based solutions that automate and integrate financial and operational processes between E&P companies and their suppliers. Our products simplify complex workflow processes and enable collaboration within and between organizations. Drilling, Production, Finance, Procurement, and Purchasing departments, as well as external service suppliers and partners all use DO2 Technologies solutions.
